Care & Longevity — How to Make Microfiber Perform for Years

Most microfiber “fails” because it gets coated — not because it wears out. With the right care, VARDA cloths refine with use, keeping their capillary power and optical clarity for years.

The one rule that matters

Microfiber works because its channels stay open. The fastest way to ruin performance is to coat those channels with waxy residues — especially fabric softeners and heavy detergents.

Keep the fibers open. Everything else is secondary.

What to avoid (non-negotiable)

  • No fabric softener — it seals the fibers and kills capillary action.
  • No dryer sheets — same problem, different package.
  • No bleach — weakens and roughens the structure over time.
  • No oily detergents — they leave a film that causes streaking.

Daily care (after each use)

  1. Rinse under warm water until it runs clear.
  2. Wring firmly (don’t baby it — microfiber is tough).
  3. Air dry flat or hang to dry.

Machine wash (the VARDA way)

  • Wash with similar textiles (avoid linty cotton towels).
  • Cold to warm wash: up to 30 °C / 86 °F.
  • Use a small amount of gentle detergent (less is more).
  • Extra rinse cycle if you can — it keeps fibers “clean of cleaners”.

Drying

Air drying is ideal. If you tumble, use low heat. High heat can distort micro-structure over time — not instantly, but death by a thousand hot cycles.

When performance drops

If a cloth starts to streak, it’s usually coated. Try a hot rinse and a wash with minimal detergent, then rinse again. Most “dead” microfiber comes back when residue is removed.

Storage

  • Store dry. Damp storage creates odor and bacterial growth.
  • Keep cloths separate by use (glass vs kitchen vs bathroom).
  • Do not store next to strong fragrances (they transfer).
